The former Nigerian finance minister, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala hae been appointed as the Director-General of World Trade Organization and also became the first woman and African to lead World Trade Organization.
The recent development was announced via the Twitter page of WTO. It was also included that Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala will assume duty Come March 1st, 2021.
Recall that Mrs. Okonjo had gained many votes on October 8, 2020 but was not announced as the Director-General because the United States government did not support her candidacy.
However, the incumbent administration of the United States supported her candidacy and she was named Director-General of World Trade Organization.
